One person in five suffers from chronic and disabling headaches. More than 42 Americans are treated for headaches, almost half of migraine. An estimated 126 million sick days are lost each year, at a cost of $6 billion to employers.
The major cause of this type of headache is misalignment of the upper neck (cervical), spinal vertebrae causing spinal cord and nerve pressure and irritation (vertebral subluxation) at the base of the skull, resulting in serious advancing side effects.
Symptoms start with occasional tension in the upper neck and then recurring tension headaches that can last up to 30 minutes less than 15 days a month for at least 3 months or chronic tension headaches that can last for hours with more than 15 days a month for at least 3 months. It progresses with dizziness when you raise your head up or spin around fast. Then the patient begins to have difficulty in concentration and memory sometimes accompanied with ringing in the ears. Next would be difficulty in sleeping, confusion, sinus drainage, possible earaches, and pain progressing into constant neck tension and headaches; other possible complications are acid stomach (which is relieved by eating), gastric ulcers, and rapid and irregular heartbeat, lowered resistance, frequent colds, dark circles around the eyes. This advances into chronic tiredness and possible nervous breakdown.
Although addicting aspirin, pain pills, and tranquilizers can sometimes give only temporary relief, the underlying condition will continue to advance until the misaligned vertebra, which is causing the irritation to the nervous system, is realigned by gentle chiropractic adjustments.
